Metech has received more than 250,000 pounds of computers, telecommunications switches and other electronic equipment from the recent United States Gulf Coast region natural disasters. This equipment was damaged beyond repair as a result of the flooding and high winds from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and has been sent to Metech for proper management. Metech is recycling the materials contained in these systems in an environmentally correct manner in accordance with its Accountable Resource Management® (ARM®) protocols. Upon arrival at Metech, each piece of equipment is subject to limited hand disassembly for removal of batteries and other hazardous component, which are properly recycled at licensed and Metech audited treatment facilities. The remaining material then goes through a series of manual and mechanical separations for recovery of base and precious metals that are recycled back to pure form and sold on commodity markets for reuse. The owners of the equipment selected Metech based upon its reputation, its ability to process large quantities of material, and its ARM® protocols. Metech International is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified company, as well as an International Association of Electronics Recyclers (IAER) Certified Electronics Recycler®. The company has processing facilities in Worcester, Massachusetts, Gilroy, California, and Penang, Malaysia.
